The constitution Bill,2014 has beenpassed by both the houses of the parliament. The 122nd constitution amendmentbill to roll out GST has now been sent to the states for their ratification.After that it will receive parliment’s nod. The bill needs the backing of atleast 16 states before it can be sent for presidential assent. As india is afederal republic GST would be implemented concurrently by the centralgovernment and by state government.

GST bill proposes a national valueadded Tax to be implemented in india from 1 April 2017. Goods and services Taxwould be a comprehensive indirect tax on manufacture, of goods and servicesthroughout india, to replace taxes levied by the central and state government.Goods and services Tax would be levied and collected at each stage of sale orpurchase of goods or services based on the input tax creit method. This methodallows GST-REGITERED BUSINESSES TO CLAIM TA CREDIT TO THE VALUE OF gst THEYPAID PART F THEIR NORMAL COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY. Taxable goods are notdistinguished from one another and are taxed at a single rate in a supply chaintill the goods or services reach the consumer. Administrative responsibilitywould generally rest with a single authority to levy tc on goods and servicesadhering to the destination principal
